Ana Margarida Biscaia Santos, MSc

Ana Biscaia is a Biomedical Scientist with over 13 years of experimental and diagnostic laboratory experience. She graduated in “Anatomia Patológica Citológica e Tanatologica” in 2008 and got her master degree in “Health Technology Assessment” in 2018.

She works at Comparative Pathology Unit since 2012 and became Facility Manager in 2020. Her focus is in quality and methodology development and has recently implemented RNAscope ® technology at the facility. She undertakes all the managerial tasks and execute & oversees facility’s technical work.

Ana Rita Pires, MSc

Ana Rita Pires is a Biomedical Scientist with about 10 years of technical and scientific experience.

Following the award of her first degree in “Anatomia Patológica Citológica e Tanatologica” in 2007, she was involved in several scientific projects at iMM|JLA. In 2018, she finished her master degree in health management and joined Comparative Pathology Unit.

She is involved in fundamental aspects of experimental histotechnology projects that leads to several subsequent publications in the field.  She always accept challenges with commitment and great enthusiasm!

Ana Cristóvão Pinto, BSc

Ana Cristóvão Pinto is a Biomedical Scientist with more than 13 experimental laboratory experiences. She has a degree in “Cytological and Thanatological Pathological Anatomy” (2008). In her first 10 years of work, she was a labmanager and assistant technician. Now she has been working at the Comparative Pathology Unit since 2019 where she embraces all standard service techniques.

Moara Lemos, PhD
Expert in Electron Microscopy

Moara Lemos is a scientist with PhD in microbiology working for 15 years in Electron Microscopy. In 2012 she finished her PhD at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro where she did her postdoc in Ultrastructure of Protozoan Parasites from 2012 to 2015. She moved to the Brazilian Centre for Research in Physics for a 9 months postdoc working in Nanomedicine and Nanotechnology.

In 2016 she initiated her postdoc at Institute Pasteur, Paris working with molecular motors of Trypanosoma brucei and in 2019 she became a research engineer at the same institute working with sample preparation and Cryo Electron Tomography. Since July of 2022 she joined the Comparative Pathology Unit as Expert in Microscopy. Her focus is sample preparation optimization and data collection for Transmission Electron Microscopy and Tomography.

Joana Antunes is a Biomedical Scientist. While finishing her Bachelor degree in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Joana was an intern at the facility, having integrated the Comparative Pathology Unit in January 2023.She is involved in the histotechnology techniques performed at the facility, approaching the different challenges with a fresh point of view, a lot of curiosity and an enthusiastic mindset. Her standard of quality assures she delivers the best work possible
